After the horrendous day last Saturday battling against the elements, Oscar and I spent a wonderful couple of days with old family friends at Ardmore School of Adventure  in Sutherland.

We had our own little log cabin on the shores of the loch where the sea otters played and the geese floated past with their newly fledged little families. The weather was beautiful though quite chilly still . We had a peaceful and restful time – I even read a book ! – and were fed and watered like kings .

Feeling well rested off we set again southwards towards Ullapool. It was another challenging couple of days – more long steep climbs and scary descents all the time against gale force winds and more rain ! Even though grey and wet the scenery was spectacular and the sun did peep out on occasion making it more pleasurable. There were plenty of deer en route seemingly quite tame mingling in with the sheep and lambs.

Eventually we arrived in Ullapool – almost halfway now ! The next day we were joined by a friend of mine – Jan – who has come up to cycle through the Outer Hebrides with us. It is lovely to have her company and will make the trip through the islands all the more enjoyable and fun.

We have now cycled down through Lewis and Harris – about to land on North Uist for the next week’s adventure ! Oscar as always is in top form and I think we have avoided any more ticks.  One good thing about the bad weather is the lack of midges so fingers crossed we might just miss them altogether.

A huge thank you goes to the following for providing dog friendly accommodation over the past few days:

Greenhill B&B, Scourie
