What a wonderful week we have had – warm and sunny for the most part (there has also been some rain needless to say!) – some fabulous days cycling along the coastal paths from Chichester through the seaside towns of Worthing, Brighton, Seaford, Hastings and now in Dungeness.
A week of catching up with old friends and family and generally enjoying the wonderful weather – too hot at times especially climbing up the steep hill to Beachy Head !
We are now almost at Dover and on the last leg north back to Suffolk. The countryside is now quite autumnal – hedgerows full of ripening blackberries, elderberries, sloes and rose hips. Early morning dew and shorter days. The fields have lost their fresh smell of the new harvest , replaced by the not so pleasant aroma of muck spreading waiting to be ploughed in ready for the new crops !
The beaches and seafronts have been packed with holiday makers and tourists making the most of the last days of summer and the lovely weather.
In a couple of weeks holidays will be over – how quickly they have passed – and all being well our journey will also come to an end. Doesn’t seem possible !
With heavy rain and wind forecast for this coming week it’s not looking pleasant for life on the road but fingers crossed it won’t be as bad as it sounds ! Next weekend takes us across the Thames and the final push through Essex back home.
