The week started with a sudden turn in the weather. Having enjoyed calm days with sunshine and even warmth – brought out the shorts – Sunday dawned with fresh winds, rain and bitterly cold. After a long day battling against the wind and eventually snow arrived at Spey Bay frozen and somewhat bedraggled !
A beautiful spot where the River Spey meets the sea. A favourite place for the Dolphins to come and feast on the fish which are there in abundance. Also frequented by the Osprey. Unfortunately neither were to be seen as very rough, cold and windy – another time perhaps.
Monday and Tuesday were dry and bright but still bitterly cold with intermittent sleet showers but we eventually arrived in Inverness after a very comfortable night in Nairn. The roads were good and little traffic so progress was reasonable apart from the relentless wind.
The route was the Malt Whisky Trail – just as well I don’t like whisky otherwise we might never have made it. I am told that May is Whisky month !
Wednesday saw Oscar and I leaving the bike and trailer in safe keeping and getting on the train down south to support Susie for a few days helping to look after Freddy and the dog whilst Dan ( her husband ) underwent major surgery. He is now out of ITU . Progress is slow and challenging but he is stable and on the road to recovery.
We are planning to return to Inverness on Wednesday and back on the road on Thursday to continue northwards to John o Groats.
Hopefully the snow will have gone and it will be a bit warmer – as for the wind, no doubt it will still be blowing !
