Our penultimate week – once again a week of WEATHER – torrential rain, wind and thunderstorms ! Some pretty perilous conditions out on the road making it very scary at times with surface water, spray and poor visibility – certainly concentrated the mind !
However, the sun showed itself for the latter part of the week as we left the seaside towns of Folkestone, Sandwich, Margate and Whitstable and travelled along the roads of Kent, passing acres of fruit orchards – apples, pears and hops .
The sun was warm with a light breeze making it a real pleasure to be pedalling through the countryside, although there is now a distinct autumnal feel to the air – early morning dew and shorter days heralding the end of summer, even the leaves are starting to fall and change colour.
With the last week of the school holidays and the Bank Holiday weekend it has been a week of Regattas and Carnivals, fetes and sporting activities.
Strange to think that when we left on our journey the snowdrops had only just finished, being replaced by the first of the daffodils, with the summer months stretching ahead of us !
Now we have just crossed the Thames to Southend with only 5 sleeps until we are back in Aldeburgh – where has the summer gone ?!
