After reaching Land’s End last weekend it has been a great week of having the wind at my back and travelling eastwards towards home !
The weather has been for the most part good, but needless to say the traffic on the roads has been pretty grim. Progress has been reasonable but hard work battling up and down the hills of Cornwall – a cream tea, however, at the end of the day has been my reward !
It has been a beautiful week’s trip taking us through fantastic scenery and visiting friends as well. It was regatta week in Charlestown ( where Poldark was filmed ) so we watched the carnival procession, soaking up the party atmosphere and becoming involved in the town’s holiday mood !
In Helston planes were practising for the air show at RNAS Culdrose so we were treated to a preview of all sorts of aerobatics going on overhead – very exciting.
The countryside is now beginning to flag a little as the summer months pass by and even the first blackberries are in the hedgerows – time seems to be flying by.
We have had a wonderful couple of days staying with old sailing friends from Suffolk who moved down a few years ago to take over the Wheal Tor Hotel ( the highest Inn in Cornwall ) in Pensilva near Bodmin – a stunning location with 360 degree views over the moors to Plymouth, Dartmoor and beyond.
Oscar has had a wonderful couple of days running across the moors – a change from the beaches and seaside. It is now back on the road today, out of Cornwall to Plymouth, heading for Dorset by next weekend.
