Back on the mainland!

As expected the week was certainly one of WEATHER ! The storms arrived Sunday night and raged all day Monday and most of Tuesday with horizontal rain and storm force winds.  We stayed an extra day on Tiree as the ferries weren’t running so Oscar had plenty of walking even in the stormy conditions.  He didn’t seem to mind although did take exception at being made to sit outside a cafe in the wind and rain whilst I had a quick coffee !

We then made our way back to Oban once the ferries were running again and made our way via Coll, Colonsay and Islay to the Mull of Kintyre. Our trip from Islay to Kennacraig ( Mull of Kintyre )  was blessed with the most amazing evening of a millpond sea, and a breathtakingly beautiful sunset over Jura. The colours were unbelievable and a real treat after all the foul weather.

It was, however purely a blip as the next day dawned with yet more rain as we cycled over to catch the boat for the  short hop to Lochranza on Arran. The drizzle soon turned to rain and after climbing the steep hill out of Lochranza – locally named Cardiac Brae (!) we had a damp ride to Brodick although it did clear and we were treated to some sunshine !

Such a shame to not be able to see the wonderful scenery of Arran although we did find the gentle, green undulating hills with trees, flowers and shrubs a welcome sight after the craggy countryside of the islands.

We arrived back on the mainland to Ardossan on a sunny afternoon but the stormy conditions returned on Saturday making it impossible to cycle anywhere. My friend returned to London and the sunshine leaving Oscar and I on our own once again. It was fun having her company and being able to share a part of the journey with her.

Sunday dawned with sunshine and light winds – the birds were singing and everywhere looked vibrant and green – we had a wonderful ride down the coast to Turnberry just outside Girvan and made good progress without having to battle against the incessant wind and rain – joyous !  The forecast looks good for the next week so all being well we will be back in England by next weekend !
